Bridging The Gaps organizes to ensure that the most marginalized members of our community are being connected with necessary supplies and support in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact on Asheville and Buncombe County. Our top (though not exclusive) priority is ensuring the safety of Black community members.

Immediately after the storm we operated out of the YMI to receive and redistribute goods to the most marginalized members of our community. Currently we are transitioning out of that role and actively exploring how we can best address the ongoing impact of the storm and the ways that it compounds previous harms. If you would like to be informed as those plans evolve, you may sign up here.

We are a collaborative initiative of GAP AVL (The Young Foundation), YMI Cultural Center, The People’s Place, Noir Collective AVL, JD Ellison & Co., OG Synergy, OURavl, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), real eyes consulting with tamarie, llc, DeepWeave.com, and The Listening Post Collective (Internews).
